-How’s life Steve, long time no see!
-It’s being a blessed week Marty, thank you for asking. How are you doing?
-Same old, same old. My boss is pissing off, my wife wants more money, my teenage kids giving me a hard time. Same old, same old.
-Well, it will be become better I’m sure.
-Thanks man! How’s your new job? I heard that they kicked you out of your old company after 20 years of service with no good pay off. I hope that a new company is treating you better. This capitalism mentality man! What happened to people, all they think is money. As if all the money in the world is not enough.
-It’s been great man, I had to start from a lower level than I used to, but I love my new team and they are giving me more responsibilities.
-Pay is the same or more?
-Honestly, I don’t even know, after the divorce I stopped looking at my bank account.
-Wait wait, I’m sorry to hear that, I heard Alice filed for the divorce the same week you lost your job? That’s a big blow man! How you held up? Are these things related?
-Thank you Marty. No we had some disagreements and we went to a therapist for about a year, so it was not sudden. And the company laid off 30% of its workforce when it was bought by a new management. These things were not related.
-Oh that sucks man. When I have a hard times, I’d like to chill for a little bit, go and relax, some occasional drinking you know?
-Actually after that I started going to gym and started writing short stories.
-Did you have a stage of a depression? I heard it’s pretty dark out there in hard times. That’s why I love Marcia and no matter how long we fight and how I can’t stand her certain traits, I am scared to lose her and start all over again.
-Yeah, losing and starting over is hard, you lose your confidence and doubt everything you are at times, I agree. The only thing that helped me at that times is to fill my life with something new, because if mind is empty it starts to relive last memories again and again. So filling my life with new things that I started enjoying brought me some new perspective in life and kept my positive.
There is a great old saying – When something bad happens to you, it’s like an arrow that hurts you, but when you think about the pain later, you’re shooting second arrow to yourself and it hurts you again. Why would I do that to myself?
-Well said Steve, well said. Well I will see you around, call me sometime, let’s grab a drink.
-Will do, Marty, great to see you too.
